Teton County Search & Rescue Foundation (TCSARF) and Backcountry Zero have announced the first annual Wyoming Backcountry Adventure Workshop (WYBAW) to be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016. The event will be from 9am - 12pm with a community lunch, open house and vendor showcase to follow from 12pm - 2pm. The event will take place at the Teton County Search & Rescue Hangar. See a detailed schedule below.

The event will include a keynote on backcountry access and ethics, presentations on backcountry weather forecasting and trip planning, common medical emergencies and treatment and instruction on what to do in backcountry emergencies.

After the general session, attendees will be able to select from several targeted tracks for more sport-specific learning. Sessions will be offered for hiking and backpacking, climbing and mountaineering, water sports and mountain biking. Topics will include What’s In Your Pack, What’s In Your Boat, Apps Maps and Trip Planning Tools, and more.

In addition to the breakout sessions, local vendors and guides will be on hand at the Vendor Showcase to provide additional demonstrations on topics like throw bags, detangling wrapped boats, common climbing and route-finding errors, mountain bike maintenance and more. Discounts from local guides and instructors will also be available at the showcase for symposium attendees who wish to continue their educations.

A community lunch and open house will take place from 12pm - 2pm. Hot dogs generously donated by Lockhart Cattle Co., veggie burgers, ice-cream sandwiches and drinks will be available. A $5 donation is welcome but not required. Community members of all ages are encouraged to come, take a tour of the Search & Rescue hangar, meet the rescue volunteers and talk with local guides, outfitters and retailers.

Symposium tickets are $30 and include breakfast, coffee, community lunch and a swag bag of goodies from our partners and sponsors.

Tickets are available at https://tcsar.wufoo.com/forms/wybaw/.
